Photoshop: The Magic of Gaussian Blur

Photobucket
Before and After

The original picture is, I think, good enough for a portrait. I just need to make it a point.

By the way, she is a friend of mine whom I asked to posed for me when she went for a short visit here in Ireland. I took the chance to schedule a photoshoot with her which she gladly agreed on. We had a whole day to ourselves - ate, laughed, giggled and gossiped about everyone else! Upon writing this tutorial, I'm missing her so much, she is one good 'mate' as Australian calls it! She's now back home in Perth and I hope to visit her one day. More of her portraits here.

Moving on with my Photoshop tutorial, I have 7 easy steps for you.

1. In Photoshop, open a photo of yourself or anyone you want to photoshop.
2. Goto Layer > Duplicate Layer... and click OK to close.

Photobucket

3. You should now have two identical layers of the photograph.
4. Make sure the duplicate layer is the active layer.
5. Click the "Blending Modes" dropdown box in the layers palette and select "Overlay".

Photobucket

6. Goto Filter > Blur > Gausian Blur.

Photobucket

7. Adjust the Radius slider so the layer becomes blurry then press OK once you're satisfied with the result.

Voila!

P.S.
Now if it becomes too warm (or literally redder), create a new fill (b&w ball below) and look for Hue/ Saturation

Hope this helps!

See you soon!

I hope you enjoyed many glasses of wine last night!

This is fantastic!! I primarily use GIMP, PS and Flash Macromedia for editing. I find macromedia such a dream because it's more for making adverts and things like that, but I'm a sucker for layers and it's just so easy to do in there.

But tips like this would be great! Maybe a weekly tip or something?!

Have a fab week xoxo

Hey Claude, Rodney's sister (and family) lives in Sydney so there's really a reason to visit Oz someday plus the fact that I've got so many friends settled in Perth too, including you! I'll see you soon xx
